Thank you to everyone who came out today. We signed petitions, met candidates, wrote postcards AND collected items for our local mini-pantries. Most importantly, we were together in a community of shared values. #QVDOcares
Join QVDO in helping put quality Democrats on the ballot this May. Candidates for the following races will be in attendance to speak with voters while collecting signatures:
Judge of the Court of Common Pleas
Appellate Court Judge
Quaker Valley School Board
Allegheny County Council – District 1
Sewickley Borough Council
In addition to signing petitions, there will be other ways to take action. We will have a postcard-writing station to share your concerns with local representatives, information on what it takes to become a committee member and why we must fill the empty seats in QV, suggested action items that you can share with friends and do on your own, and the opportunity to share your thoughts on QVDO’s vision and strategy for the future.
Finally, because, as Democrats, we believe we should help make life better for others if we can, we will be collecting non-perishable items for the food pantries in our community.
Please plan to stop by for pizza, petitions, and most importantly, fellowship. By building our local relationships and coming together to support our community, we will gain the strength, courage, and power needed in the years ahead.
This February you can support the Black History of our own community by contributing to the documentary “Their Story”. Here are ways to donate now:
Send a check: Their Story PO Box 138 Sewickley, PA 15143 *Checks should be written to the Sewickley Community Center, with “Their Story” in the memo line
While we are overwhelmed with difficult news, one encouraging phrase has start to come up more and more often: Amid Backlash. Our voices are being heard and are critical. 5 Calls is an app that allows you to set your location and contact your legislators’ offices. It provides a list of the day’s most important issues and simple, direct scripts. It is a great way to stay in the fight!
Action Items for the Week: CALL OUR SENATORS (Borrowed from OOP)
Call their local office first, then the DC office, and if you have no luck at either, call an office somewhere in the middle of the state. If you can’t get through to anyone, be ready to send your thoughts via the contact form on their website.
It isn’t hard. Choose 1-3 of the following or issues of your own (it’s best to have a clear, focused ask) and then just tell the staffer who answers that you are calling to ask Senator X to:
Vote no on the confirmation of Robert Kennedy Jr to head Health and Human Services. He knows nothing about our system of healthcare or health research, and is poised to do tremendous damage to both. Moreover, his record as a vocal vaccine skeptic is disqualifying.
Vote no on the confirmation of Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. She is an unpredictable and genuinely strange individual who lacks relevant intelligence experience and has been strangely supportive of some of America’s bloodiest adversaries, including Syria’s Bashar al-Assad.
Vote no on the confirmation of Kash Patel as Director of the FBI. He is a died-in-the-wool Trump partisan who will not honor the traditional separation between the president and law enforcement. Patel has shown clearly that he will use this office to settle political scores and pursue Trump’s opponents.
Defend USAID, which was established by law and cannot be dissolved by executive order. USAID does essential humanitarian work around the world and earns back every dollar it spends ten times over by cementing US soft power overseas.
Protect Medicaid, which provides affordable health care to millions of people, especially those with low incomes. The administration is considering a range of ways to knee-cap Medicaid through block grants to states and spending cuts, and we cannot allow this.
Stop attacks on NIH funding. Freezes on grants, attacks on health equity research, and now the slashing of indirects for universities could quickly destroy critically important research, threaten the livelihoods of thousands of people, and suck dollars out of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania.
Keep Musk away from our data. Our data is not Musk’s to plunder. Americans did not elect him, he is too sketchy to even qualify for security clearance, and he has a hundred conflicts of interest. Get him out of our government data bases.
Introducing Quaker Valley’s own: Judge Bridges! Quita was just appointed to the Court of Common Pleas by the PA State Senate! Even though she has been appointed she still has to run to STAY on the bench! There are currently 20+ candidates running for 8 spots in Allegheny Country. Keep an eye out for more opportunities to learn more about Sewickley resident, Quita Bridges!
QV Dems! Congressman Chris Deluzio is holding a town hall TOMORROW (February 6th) at 6PM to discuss recent events involving Elon Musk and President Trump.
