Updates on AI (Artificial Intelligence)

In 1970, there was a film entitled “Colossus: The Forbin Project” in which Eric Braeden plays a computer scientist that engineers a giant system dedicated to national defense. During the film, Colossus discovers that it has a Soviet counterpart, named Guardian. The two systems end up merging and forcing humanity to bend to their will. With Artificial Intelligence now a real and growing part of our lives, the film may be a predictor of things to come.

Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen of Axios have penned a series of articles on AI that tells us that even the people who engineer these systems don’t exactly know how or why they do what they do. When the atom bomb was invented, the physicists who built knew how it worked, what it was capable of and could control when and how it was used. That doesn’t apply to AI. I’m linking those reading this to the articles in the Axios series, so we, as a group, can better understand the implications of this groundbreaking technology.

Thanks for your attention.
